Gibson Les Paul

- The Flying V & Gibson SG, guitars with character

Gibson Les Paul, it was 1952 the year Gibson the company and Les Paul the most popular guitarist of the time joined forces to launch their first solid body electric guitar. The launch of this particular guitar is considered to be a defining moment in the history of the electric guitar, as we know it today.

The success of this model can be measured by the fact that the basic design concept was used as a template by other manufacturers of the time. Other adventurous designs such as the “Flying V”, Gibson SG, and explorer were launched later in that decade. Curiously enough production of the Gibson Les Paul ceased for a short time in the late fifties only to be resumed in the early 1960’s.

In 1994 Gibson as a company was presented an industry award for its launch of the "nighthawk". This marked the start of company’s second century in the music industry. Today the range of electric guitars includes both semi-hollow body and solid body designs. The guitars now manufactured in Nashville are superior quality guitars but unfortunately the price often reflects this fact.

Those historic names the Gibson Les Paul, the flying V, Gibson SG and explorer are still to be found in the manufacturers product range today. If you are in the market for a new guitar, can afford the extra few bucks and appreciate the quality features of these great guitars, I say go for it. Useful Tip
When visiting the sites above I find the best way to view the instruments you wish to see is to go into the electric guitar section and key the name of the brand (e.g fender or gibson) you wish to view in to the search box. In this way you will get to see all the relevant models for each maker together in one or two screens.
